Streetlight Manifesto staying true, encouraging the boycott of their own merchandise and CDs
As events unfold with internet file-sharing and attacks against the free web occur, we will [hopefully] begin to see more “indie” label artists come to this realization, as all to often it is the case of the unfortunately naive group of people playing music together who will throw themselves at anything with the words record, label, and contract, on a sheet of paper.
I’m not one of those fanboys that name drops these dudes all the time, but Misha Mansoor and Periphery are leading by perfect example in the case of pursuing deals with record labels and distributors.
